The Collie Street apartments continues the Fremantle tradition of suspense and delight, hidden communal spaces that focus otherwise unseen fragments of the city. It seeks to introduce modern architecture into the historic city in a sophisticated and appropriate manner, embracing the mutual and beneficial co-existence of architecture from different ages. A new form of architecture is proposed for this place reflecting European precedents ultimately assimilated to Fremantle culture and climate. A proposed mix of dwelling types reveal the diversity that can exist in the port city ranging from single bed apartments, two bed apartments, mezzanine apartments to two level townhouses with roof top pavilions.
